WHAT WE BELIEVE IN

The Malcolm X Academy recognizes that families are the heartbeat of the community.  It's essential that we provide our children with educational environments that affirm who they are, teach them how our people arrived at this historical moment, and encourage them to grow forward into a life aligned with the cause of Black liberation.

MXA school policies and teaching methods are rooted in the history, culture, and experiences of the Black community. We provide our scholars with a variety of indoor and outdoor educational settings where they gain hands-on experience, learn skills, and deepen their understanding by putting classroom topics into real-world practice. Our curriculum teaches students how to think, not what to think.

LEARNING LOVE

Above all else, Revolution is a process of LOVE. It's learning - against whatever odds - to deeply love one's self and the people and places that make up our community. MXA is a liberated learning space, which means we respect all people regardless of what they look like, who they love, what they believe religiously or spiritually, and how they identify. The Malcolm X Academy team is committed to creating liberated learning spaces where children are empowered to live well, learn, laugh, heal, and love. 

A LIBERATED CURRICULUM

The Malcolm X Academy team utilizes teaching methods rooted in natural, holistic, and traditional Afrikan practices. Every lesson is imbued with our community's long-standing tradition of Black love, resilience, and resistance. MXA offers an education that expands beyond the typical public school subjects. We provide students with the opportunity to:

• farm
• cook and prepare meals
• learn Swahili
• practice self-defense and mindfulness
• create art
• design clothes
• play instruments and produce music
• act, and more!

Our scholars also have opportunities to assist in serving the local community through Survival and Mutual Aid programs hosted at our Center.
