CMB Neighbor Program is the Sacramento Branch of Community Movement Builders, operating out of the Shakur Center in Oak Park. CMB Neighbor Program operates roughly a dozen programs; including our Free Food Program which distributes groceries four times a week to the community, as well as our own full-time K-8 community school Malcolm X Academy for Afrikan Education. Other programs include our Free Breakfast Program, Newspaper, Community Learning, Mindfulness, Health & Wellness Clinic, Legal Clinic, Political Prisoner Program, Arts & Culture Events and more.

CURRENT PROGRAMS

Malcolm X Academy- A full-time kindergarten through 8th grade community school. Learn more about MXA 

Free Breakfast Program - provides weekly meals to the unhoused community in the Sacramento area to build anti-capitalist class consciousness.

Free Food Program - Free Food Program provides groceries four days a week to the Sacramento area to combat the rapid food apartheid in Sacramento.

Mindfulness Meditation - bi-monthly meditation and breathing workshop to benefit people’s nervous system health.

Community Learning - a bi-monthly open political education discussion.

Neighbor Newspaper - a political education publication.

Book Club - a weekly in-depth political education session.

Assata Shakur Freedom Farm  - a food sovereignty and land stewardship project designed to teach how to grow healthy food.

Dr. Mutulu Shakur Health and Wellness clinic- Free health and wellness resources workshops and services.

Afeni Shakur Legal Clinic- Free resources, workshops and legal services for the community.

Political Prisoner Program - Raises awareness and supports political prisoners and recently released captured by the american empire.

Neighbor Needs - Provides clothes and essential needs to the community.

Arts and Culture - The arts and culture team curates the culture of resistance at the Shakur Center and beyond through designing clothes, curating live musical events, and filming a docu-series.
